This independent study program is presented via the world wide web and uses a flexible learning format that allows you to easily access the information and work at your own pace. This course is designed for dental health professionals who participate in the delivery of periodontal care and are interested in strengthening communications skills that are essential to effective case presentation. While using actual cases, the program includes examples of the six steps involved in an effective periodontal case presentation. You will gain knowledge and skill through the use of images, sound and interactive exercises.
You will learn how to:
- involve your patient in the resolution of their periodontal disease.
- provide reassurance for long-term periodontal health.
- present the option of referral for specialized treatment.
- outline a periodontal treatment plan.
- show your patients how they can improve their periodontal health.
- obtain a commitment from your patient to move forward with treatment.

An Internet connection and a web browser.
This course is available in two different formats; a text version and a multimedia version. The text version is for computers with older versions of web browsers and is faster to print without graphics, audio and text interactivity. The multimedia version includes graphics, audio and is text interactive which provides an enhanced learning experience. It requires a newer web browser such as Netscape Communicator or Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 4.0 or higher and the RealPlayer audio plug-in. All of these may be obtained free of charge by clicking on the hypertext links included in the course.
