Head and Neck Anatomy on CD-ROM, Unit Two: Cranial Nerves

This CD-ROM* offers an interactive approach to learn or review the cranial nerves. Three-dimensional colored illustrations and photographs are used to teach the characteristics of all twelve cranial nerves, including their places of origin, their pathways and their anatomical functions. Emphasis is placed on the trigeminal and facial nerves, both of special interest to the dental professional. When you click on bolded terms in the text, the cranial nerve is highlighted on the skull and an audible pronunciation is given. Identification exercises and multiple-choice questions are included, which allow you to self-evaluate your understanding of the material.

After completion of this self-instructional program you will be able to:

  • identify the twelve cranial nerves.
  • identify the pathways of the trigeminal and facial nerves.
  • describe the innervation provided by each cranial nerve.
  • describe three disorders of the trigeminal and facial nerves.
  • integrate your knowledge of the cranial nerves into the concepts of pain management with local anesthesia.

*CD-ROM is available for rental only to complete course requirements. Tuition does not include the purchase of the CD-ROM. The CD-ROM must be returned within three weeks of the date you receive the course materials.
