CONGRATULATIONS TO DR. TED MURRAY, the fourth graduate of the Certificate Program in Contemporary Restorative and Esthetic Dentistry at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Murray completed the 500-hour lecture, laboratory and clinical curriculum while commuting from his full-time practice in Dubuque, Iowa. Dr. Murray indicates that the metamorphosis to his practice has been amazing. Not much had changed in the way that he had treated patients since graduating from the University of Iowa in 1977. He was just doing a lot more dentistry within an insurance-driven practice. However, since participating in the Certificate Program he has shifted from a drill-and-fill based practice to an esthetic restorative practice, built a new state-of-the-art facility, and has focused his practice on treating fewer patients while doing more comprehensive dentistry. Dr. Murray states "I am comfortable now doing anything from simple smile makeovers to complex cases and it's a lot more fun going to work than it used to be." During the program he completed a research paper on restoring a meth mouth case with direct resins. The case won not only the "Gold Medal" and "Best of Show" awards at the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) Smile Gallery but was also published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Murray is the first graduate of the Certificate Program to have his research paper published. Concurrently, he has attained Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry and is in the process of earning accreditation in the AACD. |
